Camouflage, corduroy, duck canvas, flannel, leather, suede and wool are all sturdy materials associated with hard-wearing, tough products. Mixed together, these form the primary canvas for the Nike Air Force 1 x Cactus Jack, an ode to Travis Scott’s Texas roots that encapsulates everything buzzing in contemporary streetwear.

The design blends the fabrics with burlap accents, a reference to farm product and a metonym for resilience and hard work. There’s an underlying characterization of hustle — keeping nose to grindstone — imbued in the shoe too. Scott’s personal Cactus Jack logos from tour merchandise meld with the textiles to form a biographical tableau.

Much of Scott’s youth was spent in Missouri City, Texas, and the small town is called out on the snaps at the shoe’s heel. The snaps are among several details that channel the styling of traditional work coats, along with the corduroy collar, heavy brass zippers and removable lace cover.
